What Moonstone Does

Moonstone's glow is called adularescence: light scattering between microscopically thin layers inside the feldspar, producing a soft blue-white sheen that appears to float below the surface and moves as the stone tilts. It is not a reflection and not a polish — it is happening inside the stone. That is why moonstone looks different in every light, and why photographs never quite capture it.

Care

Moonstone is softer than quartz and cleaves along internal planes, which means a sharp knock can split it rather than chip it. Take the ring off for washing up, gardening and the gym. Clean with a soft damp cloth only, never an ultrasonic cleaner. Sterling silver darkens with air; a silver cloth restores it.

Why does the glow disappear at some angles?
Adularescence only shows when light enters at the right angle to the internal layers. Tilt the stone and it returns — that shifting is the effect working, not a flaw.
