The Seven Stones

The chakra sequence runs through the spectrum — red at the base, then orange, yellow, green, blue and indigo, to violet at the crown — and each bead is chosen to match its colour. It is a tradition drawn from Indian yogic practice, and the bracelets are worn as a reminder rather than a remedy. For most people the appeal is simply that seven graded colours make an unusually good-looking strand.

Fit

19cm suits an average to larger wrist with a little movement. Measure your wrist and add roughly 1.5cm when buying a bead bracelet — beads have no give at all, so a strand cut exactly to the wrist measurement will feel tight.

Care

Several of these stones are porous, turquoise especially. Keep the bracelet away from perfume, sun cream and hand gel, take it off before swimming, and wipe with a dry cloth rather than washing it. Store apart from metal jewellery so the softer stones do not scuff.
